Before and After ~ For a Great Cause!

I don't normally post much about my kidlets on here, but my girl has done something that's made her mama's heart swell with pride and I must share with you :)

My daughter Jocelyn, who's 11, has decided to participate in the St. Valentine's Day Hair Massacure to raise funds for cancer research and the Stollery, our children's hospital that she stayed in last year.  In this event you can donate your hair, dye it pink or shave your head to raise awareness.  So what is she doing?

Before:

And after:

And not only did she cut her hair off to donate and color it pink, she's decided to shave her head as well on Feb 11!!!  Way to go my girl, we are so proud of you!

If anyone would like to help Jocelyn achieve her goal, please go here to donate. Thank you so much :)

Stitching? Really?!

Well, a little bit anyways :)  I've been working on my North Pole stocking some lately.  Not too much, but there's been a lot done since the last pic I posted, in February!  I wish I could have found a little bit of a darker blue fabric since the chimney smoke doesn't show very well, but it'll be ok.

And there's a BoInk pic too!  I hang my head in shame on this piece, both Rebekah and Andrea have finished theirs and I'm slowly plugging along on mine.  And I mean S-L-O-W-L-Y too!  I've only managed the four little red blocks and not quite all of the bottom centre block since I last posted a progress pic in July!  I think I remember something about having to post a weekly update?!?  Just call me Slacker ;)

And what helps me get over the fact that there's not much stitching going on?  Why dreaming about stitching of course :)  I acquired all of these lovely stitchy books & magazines over the holiday season and there's resulting in all kinds of wonderful stitchy dreams...

And crochet ones too!

Aren't those vintage crochet magazines amazing?  The publishing date is 1964.  My grandma came across these in the book store she volunteers in and scooped them up for me for Christmas.  Along with a couple of those cross stitch magazines in the other pic and the book.  And a big bag full of embroidery hoops, about 20 of them or so.  And she shared some treasures with me too, like this beautiful petit-point necklace:

I don't know if you can see the detail in this little flower, but I put the dime beside it to show how small it actually is.  Definitely a treasure.

Thanks so much for stopping by today, I hope you had a wonderful Friday!

First TUSAL Post of 2011

Wow ~ 2011....  it still feels weird to say that!

Anywho, today is the new moon and in keeping with the rules for the TUSAL, I'm posting my pic.  I've decided to continue my jar going this time as there's still lots of room.  I started a new jar at the beginning of last year and still have my old ORTs from the first year of the TUSAL.  I originally thought I may combine the two, but the old one is actually full now as I've been tossing all my yarn clippings in there from the crochet work I did this year.  I don't know what to do with them all, but it seems like a shame to throw them away!    DH thinks it's silly, but I'm sure you all understand ;)  We work hard for our ORTs dang it!!

Not a very good shot, but it's late and dark, so what can you do?  And yes...  I still have my Christmas decorations up too...  Does anyone else?  What's your normal time to take them down?  We normally tear down anywhere in the first half of January, and this year I'm hoping we'll get the chance to put it all away by the end of this coming weekend.

Thank you for stopping by today!

Happy New Year!

Do you make resolutions?  I never really have before, and don't really have any new plans for this upcoming year either.  I guess that means things are going pretty good?!?  haha

I've been reading all the crafty goals that are out there for 2011 and they're looking pretty good!  Mine are pretty straight-forward I think ~ more crafty time!  I'd like to stitch more ornaments this year, learn some new crochet techniques and I still want to learn to knit :)  There's a yarn store across from where I work that offers knitting classes, I think I'll be looking into those this year.  Should be an interesting, crafty year!

On Christmas Eve my HoE Ornamant Exchange arrived from Melissa.  What perfect timing!  I was starting to get a little antsy thinking it wasn't going to make it by Christmas ~ but it did and it was well worth waiting for!  Just look for yourself :)

Thank you so much Melissa, I just love it!

Thank you so much for stopping by!  I wish you all the best for 2011 :)
